Being a Winsome Apologist

June 2, 2017

By John Lennox

“The word ‘apologetics’ is one of the most unfortunate words in the English language. … It is a transliteration of a Greek work apologia, which simply means ‘defense.’ … And because we have sadly, in my view, transliterated it, we have given many people the impression that apologetics is a subdivision of philosophy 101, and is therefore only accessible to highly educated Christians. That is an entirely false impression, because giving defense of your faith was something encouraged on all Christians in New Testament times.”

Always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence.—1 Peter 3:15 NASB
